Abstract

This article is devoted to the bright and expressive architectural style of the 20th century - postmodernism. Nowadays, this style still remains one of the most unreported in publicism and incomprehensible by society. Many architects - professionals of their field - often cannot distinguish postmodernism from modernism and other architectural styles of that period. The prerequisites for the appearance of this style were described in detail, as well as a brief description of its history of emergence and development in different parts of the world. In addition, the main expressive means and characteristics used by architects of this direction were described, and there are given examples from modern architecture demonstrating the stated theses. In conclusion, the analysis revealed how postmodernism influenced the modern design practice and architecture of our days as a whole.
